When you write a post do you sound like yourself?
When it comes to social media, one of the biggest roadblocks I see with my clients is this weird disconnect between how they naturally communicate and how they write their posts.
It's like they step into some alternate professional dimension where suddenly they're using words like "encapsulating" and "enhancement" instead of just talking like themselves.
Sound familiar? I thought so.
Carmen is one of my clients who does reiki, tarot, and human design. She's also a grain farmer who lives so far out in the countryside that she doesn't even have a street address. In person, she's down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and absolutely hilarious.
But when she'd write social media posts? Suddenly she sounded like a professor with a stick up her bum writing for an academic journal
She knew something was off. Her posts just didn't sound like HER. And that meant they weren't connecting with her audience the way her in-person conversations did. Plus, they were taking her AGES to write and making her feel frustrated every time she sat down to create content.
During one of our Sprint meetings, we had a breakthrough. Carmen could TALK like herself just fine—it was only when she started WRITING that she got stuck in formal mode.
So we came up with a simple solution:
Grab your phone (or any device or program with voice-to-text)
Hit record and pretend you're explaining your post to a friend or favorite client
Speak naturally, using the words and phrases you'd normally use
Edit lightly afterward (but resist the urge to formalize everything)
That's it!
Carmen imagined she was just hanging out talking with me. It helped her stay relaxed and authentic.
A few days later, I was scrolling through Facebook when I spotted Carmen's post about the new moon. She had written:
"Leo is about power, strength and the new moon is about making shit happen."
I cheered out loud. THAT was Carmen! That was her voice, her energy, her personality shining through.
To be clear—I'm not saying everyone should swear in their posts. Some say it might even reduce your reach. But what made me so happy was seeing Carmen's authentic voice in her writing.
There are probably lots of people who do what you do. But your ideal clients aren't looking for just anyone—they're looking for THEIR person. How are they going to find YOU if you sound like everyone else?
The truth is, people connect with people, not perfect posts. When your content sounds like the real you—with your unique phrases, enthusiasm, quirks and all—it attracts the right people who resonate with YOUR specific energy.
Remember, social media is a conversation, not a performance. When you're having coffee with a friend and sharing something exciting, you don't obsess over whether your sentence structure is perfect or if you're using the "right" terminology.
You just talk. And that connection—that authentic exchange—is what makes social media powerful.
So the next time you find yourself overthinking a post, step away from the keyboard. Pick up your phone, hit record, and just talk it out.
People will love you for it.

"Kate really cares, she is clear and concise and generous with her expertise, so you can confidently communicate your message to prospective clients in person or social media."
"You blow my mind! Every time we get on Zoom there is more than one gem that you drop on me. Even though I oversaw the management of a brand's social media for a decade, and attended many social media conferences with many "experts" and "brand managers" there are so many insights that ONLY YOU have ever shared. This is real world, executable information and I will be singing your praises to anyone who will listen."

"When I sought out Kate's help, I was stuck in my Instagram numbers, and losing jobs because 'I wasn't popular enough' I knew I had to court the algorithm more effectively, but nothing I did seemed to work and I was frustrated and exhausted by the uphill battle of it all. After taking Kate's advice, my numbers started to climb, and within the month l hit my goal. Now, four months later, that number has doubled! And I have several new commissions which have to be because of my improved visibility. I owe so much of this to the Sprint program."

"Things are going amazing!! I feel like I am so much clearer on where I want to be and what I provide. Something that I've never taken the time to do until this course.
In terms of goals with this course I feel like I'm ahead of the game. Which has really made me want to take more action in my business as a whole.
I'm feeling really good about where I'm headed."
