You never know who's watching

May 18, 20242 min read

If you asked me a week ago who would reach out to me this week and ask for help, I would never have guessed it would be the person who sent me this:

A text message my new client sent me

ALT TEXT: Text messages that say: "Hiiiii. So. Can I book a free session with you to talk about possibly hiring you? 😬
I am going to need some help. I'm feeling super f***ing overwhelmed. But excited.

This is someone who I didn't even know was paying attention! They weren't liking my posts. They weren't commenting. I knew them from a past career, but I wasn't even sure they were following me and I certainly didn't know they were paying attention to what I do now!

And believe it or not, this is probably the third time this has happened this year! When I told this story in an Instagram post, Becky Berry, a career coach, commented that one person followed her for six or seven years before hiring her! It can happen to you too.

What to remember when you're feeling bad about a post that flops:

  • Social media is a long game: As great as it is when someone falls in love with you and hires you or buys from you right away, many people need more time to get to know you and depending on your offer, it may be a level of financial commitment that requires a bit more consideration before taking the leap.

  • The slow burn: People who aren't clicking like and aren't commenting, may still be out there thinking that you might be the right person for them. You may not even know them yet! They may not be on your mailing list, but they are out there and could buy from you or reach out at any time.

  • If you aren't making yourself seen, they can't see you: Showing up online means you are staying top of mind for them. If you aren't showing up, will they remember you? Will they be able to find you? Maybe, but maybe not!

What people say about working with me

"Kate really cares, she is clear and concise and generous with her expertise, so you can confidently communicate your message to prospective clients in person or social media."

"You blow my mind! Every time we get on Zoom there is more than one gem that you drop on me. Even though I oversaw the management of a brand's social media for a decade, and attended many social media conferences with many "experts" and "brand managers" there are so many insights that ONLY YOU have ever shared. This is real world, executable information and I will be singing your praises to anyone who will listen."

—Kait H, Yarn Store Owner

"When I sought out Kate's help, I was stuck in my Instagram numbers, and losing jobs because 'I wasn't popular enough' I knew I had to court the algorithm more effectively, but nothing I did seemed to work and I was frustrated and exhausted by the uphill battle of it all. After taking Kate's advice, my numbers started to climb, and within the month l hit my goal. Now, four months later, that number has doubled! And I have several new commissions which have to be because of my improved visibility. I owe so much of this to the Sprint program."

—Julia F-C, Designer

"Things are going amazing!! I feel like I am so much clearer on where I want to be and what I provide. Something that I've never taken the time to do until this course.

In terms of goals with this course I feel like I'm ahead of the game. Which has really made me want to take more action in my business as a whole.

I'm feeling really good about where I'm headed."
